Bangladesh Promotion Day and International Mother Language Day Celebrated

Events have escalated at Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) with the start of the 2018-2019 academic spring semester. OMU, which houses international colors from 109 countries, hosted the events of “Bangladesh Promotion Day” and “International Mother Language Day” accepted by UNESCO. Organized by the OMU International Relations Office, International Student Office and International Student Society and supported by the Turkish Language Education and Application Center (OMU-Turkish), the events were held in OMU Atatürk Congress and Culture Center.

The events were attended by Bangladesh Deputy Ambassador Sabuj Ahmed and Embassy officials, Deputy Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kuran, Faculty of Medicine Dean Prof. Dr. Ayhan Dağdemir, OMU International Relations Office Head Prof. Dr. Rıdvan Kızılkaya, OMU International Student Coordinator and International Student Society Academic Advisor Prof. Dr. İzzet Akça, OMU Turkish Head Dr. Ömer Saraç, academicians, administrative staff and a great number of Turkish and international students.

The event started with the recitation of a poem by Bangladeshi students in their mother language Bengali. The poem, which was recited to celebrate the International Mother Language Day, was accompanied by the international students at OMU. Afterwards, OMU-TURKISH Preparatory Class students recited the poem “I want a land” Tarancı (Memleket İsterim) by Cahit Sıtkı and Bengali poems, which performances won the favor of the audience.

Coming from Ankara to attend the programme, Bangladeshi student and artist Ching Moi Mucumdar enlivened the event with a Bengali song given voice to with the instrument “harmonium”. The Bangladesh national dance choreography performed by Turkish and international students of OMU escalated the excitement. The mini fashion show promoting Bangladeshi traditional clothing fascinated the audience and drew much applause.  

Students who presented performances in the event received their thanks letters at the end of the programme.
